Trooper Developer Interview

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

A new video has been added by the Bioware team which goes over the developers thoughts and decisions in the making of the trooper.

The video demonstrates quite a lot of good looking animations and concepts, which is always a good sign this early on.

You also get an insight into how they get their good looking animations, via EA’s animation studio. (Man in a funny dotted suit!)

It will be interesting to see how the trooper evolves over time to be a class worthy of rivaling the Jedi and Bounty Hunters who will probably end up being the popular classes ingame.

Trooper Class Announced

Friday, May 8th, 2009

As many of you may already have noticed, details on the second class have officially been released on the Old Republic website – the Trooper.

The Troopers are the elite of the Galactic Republic’s military, trained to fight side-by-side with the Jedi to one day take on the Sith; these guys aren’t to be messed with.

This is the first class officially announced for the Galactic Republic and it gives a really positive impression of the things to come from SWTOR.

One thing that I originally thought would make or break this game was going to be how Bioware dealt with the classes that cant use the force, and it seems they have done this by giving Troopers some interesting ranged abilities. Among these are the basic Rifle, a Grenade Launcher and most notably Sitcky bombs! (“Bet you can’t stick ‘em!”)

Whether these abilities are going to bring enough balance to a class that can’t shoot electricity out of their hands, or force-push you off a cliff is yet to be seen, but it’s positive so far.

Zone Previews – Snippet Gameplay Videos and UI sneak peak!

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

As you may of already seen on the official page, there is new footage of work in progress zones that are ingame already.

The video is a sneak peak of various well known Star Wars planets with a brief backstory from the world designers themselves.

If you look carefully, you’ll spot an early peak at the games User Interface.

Whether or not this is the world development tool or a sneak peak at the character UI we won’t know for a long while yet, but either way it’s cool for the team at Bioware to drop some subtle hints.
